Abstract

What role education can play in shaping our common world in 2050 and beyond? Perhaps the book “Reimagining Our Futures Together: A New Social Contract for Education” can address this issue. The book consists of a report by the International Commission on the Futures of Education (UNESCO). The report explores that the earth is threatened and everyone feels vulnerable and uncertain. Climate and environmental catastrophe, biodiversity loss, excessive resource consumption, rising social and economic inequities, democratic backsliding, disruptive technology automation, and violence have worsened the situation. As expected, the world needs transformative new possibilities. In this situation, education must be reformed to create a new social contract that encourages society to work together for the common good.
