An investigation of reading comprehension challenges and strategies among English as a second language learners in West Bengal

This survey aims to investigate the level of reading comprehension among learners of English as a second language in the state of West Bengal, India. The study addresses the challenges faced by these learners in acquiring reading skills and proposes potential strategies for improving reading comprehension in the context of second language acquisition. A representative sample of learners studying English as a second language in West Bengal surveyed using a questionnaire. The data collected and analyzed quantitatively to determine the overall level of reading comprehension and qualitatively to identify common difficulties, factors influencing reading comprehension, and effective strategies employed by learners. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the reading comprehension capabilities of second language learners in West Bengal and provide suggestions for instructional strategies to enhance their reading skills.
