Effect of inquiry-based teaching method on students’ attitude towards Geography learning at elementary level

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to know the effect of inquiry-based teaching method in relation to traditional method of teaching on students’ attitudes towards geography learning at the elementary level. The researcher selected a quasi-experimental research design to measure the effect of the treatment variable in the control condition. The sample of the study was class viii standard Bengali medium students of WBBSE. The sample size of the study was 60. The researcher used a purposive sampling technique to select the school. The attitude towards geography learning scale (ATGLS) was used to collect data. The scale was five points scale with positive and negative items. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used in the study to analyze the data. Mean, standard deviation, t-test were administered in the present study. The results showed that the inquiry-based teaching method is superior to the traditional method in the formation of a positive attitude towards geography learning. Efforts must be tailored to teach geography through inquiry-based teaching method as it helps improve attitudes towards geography.
