Opportunities of imagination, creativity and innovation in Bengali textbook

Abstract

Imagination, creativity and innovation are 21st-century skills. These skills are important competencies for overcoming the 21st century’s challenges. Developing a curriculum is necessary, which would inculcate the students' imagination, creativity and innovation. This research tried to analyse the 6th grade “Sahitya Mela” textbook of WBBSE that fosters imagination, creativity and innovation among the students or not. Here researcher used the content analysis method for textbook analysis. This study found that there are many tasks with each of the topics, but very few of them promote imaginative, creative thinking among students. There is very less opportunity for innovative thinking. So, the curriculum should be enriched with such type of content and activities which allow students to think independently and they can acquire21st-century skills.
